Chairman of the Board’s Message: A New Chairman’s Welcome: At the recent Woodworking Industry Conference (WIC) in Palm Springs, CA, David Rakauskas of Colonial Saw Co., Inc. became WMIA’s new Chairman of the Board. (See related story below.) As his two-year term begins, Dave shares some of his thoughts about how excited and honored he is to lead WMIA, and provides a snapshot of where the Association is, where he plans to focus his time and energy, and how he’d like to see the Association grow over the next two years and beyond.

New Officers, Board Members Elected: As reported above, during WMIA’s Annual Business Meeting at WIC, David Rakauskas became the Association’s new Chairman of the Board. Additionally, Jim Besonen, Wood Machinery Systems, Inc., was elected Vice-Chairman of the Board, and Pascal Doucet, Doucet Machineries, Inc., was elected Secretary/Treasurer. (Scott Mueller assumed the position of Chairman Emeritus.) Mark Craig, Anderson Group, was re-elected to the Board for a second three-year term, and several new Board members were elected: Rick Braun, Machine Solutions, LLC; Joe Hammock, Friulmac, Inc.; and Jason Howell, WEINIG.
WIC 2017: A Blast in the Desert! By all accounts, the 2017 Woodworking Industry Conference
(WIC), held in late April in Palm Springs, CA, was a tremendous success. Nearly 250 people enjoyed four days of business development, networking, excellent educational sessions, and some terrific social events.

And Mark Your Calendars for WIC 2018…It’s not too early to start thinking about the
2018 Woodworking Industry Conference, which will be held May 1-4, 2018, at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort & Spa in Maui, Hawaii. Hotel reservations and registration should be open in early July, and the special discounted room rate will be available for three days prior and three days after WIC.

2017 Wooden Globe Award Winners Salute Excellence: What do Crystal Cabinet Works, Haas Cabinet, and the New England School of Architectural Woodworking have in common? All three were honored with WMIA’s Wooden Globe Awards during the 2017 Woodworking Industry Conference in Palm Springs, CA. These awards are presented for notable success and achievements, accomplished in part through the use of high technology machinery and software supplied by WMIA-member companies.
Crystal Cabinet Works, Inc., Princeton, MN, was named Innovator of the Year. (They were nominated by Ben Dipzinski of Hocker North America, formerly O2 Filtration.) Rick Braun of Machine Solutions, LLC, nominated this year’s winner of the Commitment to Excellence through Technology Award, Haas Cabinet, Sellersburg, IN. Greg Larson and the New England School of Architectural Woodworking (NESAW), Easthampton, MA, won the Educator of the Year Award. (Chris Hofmann of Colonial Saw Co., Inc., and the new chairman of WMIA’s Education Committee, nominated NESAW.)
